AIPAC Statement on
Sanctions Targeting the IRGC
AIPAC applauds the Trump administration's action today and last week sanctioning 14 individuals and entities for supporting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its Quds Force. The sanctioned individuals and entities, including the head of Iran’s Central Bank, are responsible for funneling millions of dollars to the IRGC’s terrorist efforts.
The IRGC is the main Iranian entity providing support to the terrorist organization Hezbollah and the brutal Assad regime. On May 10, the IRGC launched a direct attack on Israel by firing some 20 rockets at the Golan Heights. These new designations by the administration represent an important step and must be part of a comprehensive and consistent effort to target all entities that facilitate support to the IRGC.
Bipartisan congressional support for sanctions on the IRGC’s terrorist activities is provided in the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), which overwhelmingly passed last year. We encourage Congress to further tighten sanctions on the IRGC by adopting the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Economic Exclusion Act (H.R. 5132)—authored by Reps. Ed Royce (R-CA) and Eliot Engel (D-NY).
