AIPAC Statement on New Iran Sanctions

AIPAC appreciates the Trump administration's decision today to sanction additional individuals and entities that support Iran’s illicit activities and violations of human rights. We also appreciate the administration’s determination to address the shortcomings of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)—including the fact that many limitations on Iran’s nuclear activities begin to expire within eight years.

The United States must press our allies to come to an understanding about the future of the JCPOA’s provisions that expire or “sunset.” Simultaneously, our government must apply additional pressure on the Iranian regime to end its regional aggression, illicit ballistic missile program, and suppression of the rights of its own citizens.

We continue to urge the administration and Congress to work together to implement a comprehensive, bipartisan strategy that counters Iran’s malign behavior and ensures that it will never be able to acquire nuclear weapons.
