Senate Committee Adopts Critical
Support For Israel
AIPAC commends the Senate Appropriations Committee for including key provisions to support America’s ally Israel in the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2017.
The bill provides $3.4 billion in security assistance to Israel, a $300 million increase over last year’s funding. These funds will help Israel address an increasing array of security threats stemming from direct challenges to the Jewish state.
Importantly, at the urging of Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), the Committee also voted to include in the measure the Combating BDS Act of 2016, which he co-authored along with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), to provide critical protection for states that take action to oppose boycotts against Israel.
AIPAC appreciates the strong leadership of Subcommittee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who authored the legislation, as well as Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Thad Cochran (R-MS) and Barbara Mikulski (D-MD).
