Senate Supports Aid to Israel

The Senate plans to vote on a continuing resolution (CR) – a stopgap measure to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year pending a formal spending agreement by the two parties – that includes $3.1 billion in security assistance for Israel.

The House passed its own version of the CR on March 6, and a Senate vote is expected sometime this week.

The CR – in both its House and Senate iterations – includes $211 million in additional funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.

The funding levels will still be subject to across-the-board cuts mandated by sequestration.
