The latest talks between world powers and Iran earlier this month once again failed to achieve progress toward curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Meanwhile, Tehran continues to expand its nuclear program in violation of its international obligations. The United States must dramatically increase the pressure on Iran to suspend its program by enforcing current sanctions, enacting new measures, and increasing a credible military threat.

As the United States makes a new effort to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, we should remember the key principles that have led to progress in prior negotiations. Washington should coordinate closely with Israel and use its good offices to facilitate direct negotiations without preconditions. The United States should eschew any effort to impose a solution and deal privately with disagreements that may arise between the parties. The United States should urge broad Arab support for the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the talks, and insist that the Palestinians stay at the table, end incitement against Israel, and cease their diplomatic warfare against Israel at the U.N.
