While certainly no sports powerhouse, Israel has competed in the Olympic Games since 1952. Having won a total of seven medals in judo, canoeing and windsurfing, the Jewish state has also experienced great tragedy at the Olympics, with the murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Games.
