A bipartisan group of 39 members of the House signed a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing concern about Chinese support for Iran’s energy sector. The letter, spearheaded by Reps. Daniel Lipinksi (D-IL) and Frank Wolf (R-VA) and sent on Oct. 21, calls on the Obama administration “to increase pressure on the Chinese government to withdraw its companies from Iran.”
The letter emphasizes the importance of re-engaging “with other members of the U.N. Security Council to impose a UN global ban on Iranian energy investment.” It also urges “stronger action to block the transfer of technology and materiel to Iran that will contribute to its continuing work to uranium enrichment and a nuclear weapons capability.”
