The Treasury Department sanctioned an Iranian airline, an Iranian trading company, and several Iranian officials for shipping weapons to the Levant and Africa.
The March 27 “action again exposes Iran’s malign influence in the Middle East, Africa and beyond,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen. “As the Iranian regime exports its lethal aid and expertise to foment violence in Syria and Africa, Treasury will continue to expose the officials and companies involved and work to hold them accountable for the suffering they cause.”
The sanctioned entities worked with the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to ship illicit cargo to Iranian clients, including Hizballah and Syrian officials.
Shipped weapons included grenades, rockets, mortars, and ammunition. According to Treasury, the shipments were overseen by the highest levels of the Quds Force.
