House Declares Determination to Stop Iran

The House declared on May 18 that it shall seek to take “all necessary measures” to stop the threat of Iran’s nuclear program.

“It shall be the policy of the United States to take all necessary measures, including military action if required, to prevent Iran from threatening the United States, its allies, or Iran’s neighbors with a nuclear weapon,” the House said as part of a measure in the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed by a vote of 299 to 120.

The legislation also includes several additional pro-Israel provisions that would enhance U.S.-Israel security cooperation.

On May 17, the House adopted H.Res.568, which reiterated that U.S. policy was to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability and that containment was not an option to deal with Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
