Treasury Designates Hamas-Linked Charities

The Treasury Department on Oct. 4 designated two Lebanese charities—Al-Waqfiya and Al-Quds Charities— for their ties to Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist group.  The charities provided money to boost support for Hamas’ power and aid families of Hamas terrorists and prisoners, according to the press release.

Treasury voiced its commitment to closing off financial avenues exploited by Hamas and other terror groups to bankroll terrorism.

“The Treasury Department will continue to work to disrupt Hamas's efforts to radicalize vulnerable communities and undermine regional stability,” said Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen.

He added: “Today's action represents another step in our effort to ensure that charitable fronts are not used to finance terrorism.”
