Hispanic Americans across the country work to help protect our ally Israel.
Latinos in the United States represents the largest and fastest growing population group in the country, today making up roughly 15% of the U.S. population. The 113th Congress has 35 Hispanic members – 26 Democrats and 9 Republicans – the largest number of Hispanics to have seats in Congress, and that number is expected to grow in the future.
As the Hispanic community grows both in numbers and political activism, its leadership plays an increasingly prominent role in shaping national foreign policy. AIPAC’s Hispanic Outreach encourages Latino leaders to become educated on the importance of the U.S. – Israel relationship and to engage in pro-Israel activism. Hispanic Outreach focuses on congressional districts with Hispanic members of Congress and/or large concentrations of Latino constituents.
Important state and local elected officials, leaders from prominent national organizations, political consultants, successful businesspeople and entrepreneurs, and numerous other community leaders have traveled to Israel with AIPAC’s charitable affiliate, the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), and have become important voices in the growing Hispanic pro-Israel community. An increasing number have engaged their members of Congress on the vitality of the U.S.-Israel alliance and are building critical relationships with future policymakers and opinion-leaders.
AIPAC currently focuses its Hispanic Outreach in the Southern Pacific Region with plans to expand to the Southwest Region in the near future.
"Latinos across the country are becoming more and more of a factor in positions of power and positions of elected office. And so it’s critical they understand why it’s important to have a positive U.S.-Israel relationship.” –Eddie Aldrete
“As Hispanic Americans continue to become more influential on domestic and world affairs, it is imperative that we understand the complexities and the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship. AIPAC helps to serve as the important bridge of information.” –Peter Villegas
“Today, thanks to AIPAC, when I hear the topic of Israel I am compelled to speak up and correct the misinformation about Israel. As a representative of Labor and a Latina, I can honestly share with all of you that Israel has become one of my ‘CAUSA’s,’ Spanish for causes.” –Olga Miranda
