African Americans from across the United States work with AIPAC to help keep our ally Israel strong and secure.
Support for the U.S.-Israel relationship extends far beyond the Jewish community. Today, African Americans play a vital and growing role in carrying out AIPAC’s critical mission – strengthening the bond between the United States and Israel so that both are safer and more secure. African Americans make up 13% of the U.S. population, and the Congressional Black Caucus consists of 44 members in the 113th Congress.
AIPAC’s African American Outreach activists are leaders in their communities, comprising important religious, political, business and civic leaders in congressional districts with a large number of African American constituents. Pastors, state and local elected officials, leaders from major organizations, successful entrepreneurs and other community leaders have traveled to Israel with AIPAC’s charitable affiliate, the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), and have become important voices in the growing African American pro-Israel community. An increasing number are building meaningful pro-Israel relationships with their members of Congress, helping educate current and future influential policymakers on the value of the U.S.–Israel relationship.
In addition to engaging their members of Congress, African American Outreach activists host meetings and share their support for Israel in their communities. These community leaders participate in AIPAC’s annual Policy Conference and help identify other African American leaders who have the potential to become pro-Israel political activists through AIPAC.
AIPAC currently focuses its African American Outreach in the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast Regions.
“I believe that we all need a thriving AIPAC to empower us to lift up our voices to Capitol Hill and the corridors of the White House.” -
Rev. Dr. Deedee Coleman
“If we stand together and lift our voices together as one, then our leaders – America’s leaders – will understand that Israel is here to stay. They will understand that we as a people stand together with Israel today and even forever more. AIPAC matters. Relationships matter. Standing up for right matters.” -
Rev. Kenneth Flowers
"I understand the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship as I have never understood it before. It is a mutually beneficial…and mutually imperative alliance. I’m proud to support it…and honored to do it through my strong association with AIPAC.” -
Mayor Steve Benjamin Columbia, South Carolina
