Unprecedented Student Attendance
For some students around the country, March 4-6 falls right in the middle of spring break or midterm exams. Yet an enormous number—over 1,600—have made their way to Washington, D.C. for Policy Conference 2012.
There are more campus delegates at this Policy Conference than at any other in AIPAC’s history. The students come from 530 campuses in all 50 states and D.C. Among them are 400 high-school students and 217 elected Geller Student Government Association Presidents.
The Geller Student Government Association Presidents hail from an eclectic array of campuses including Harvard University, University of Chicago, Morehouse College, Utah State University, and University of California-Berkeley.
In addition to joining community delegates for plenaries, breakout sessions and the Gala Banquet, students will participate in a variety of special events. One highlight is the AIPAC Campus Awards Dinner, which honors exceptional pro-Israel students and campus professionals for their work over the past year.
Other campus-related events include: a networking opportunity for students and alumni from America’s Ivy League campuses; an African American leadership luncheon; a meet and greet event for the 2012 Friedman Scholars of Yeshiva University; a High School Fair featuring thirty-five colleges and universities; and a unique college seniors reception with AIPAC’s top young community activists from across the country.
PC delegates interested in learning more about pro-Israel activism on campus can attend one of the Sunday breakout sessions on this topic: “Israel on Campus: Creating Tomorrow’s Leaders” and “The Struggle to Secure Israel on Campus: 1956-2016”. Both forums feature AIPAC Leadership Development Director Jonathan Kessler, with the first showcasing several of AIPAC’s top campus activists and the second examining the trends most important to the Israel on Campus movement.
