AIPAC and Hispanic leaders are working together to help protect our vital ally Israel.
Latinos in the United States represents the largest and fastest growing population group in the country, today making up roughly 15% of the U.S. population. The 113th Congress has 35 Hispanic members – 26 Democrats and 9 Republicans—the largest number of Hispanics to have seats in Congress, and that number is expected to grow in the future.
As the Hispanic community grows both in numbers and political activism, its leadership plays an increasingly prominent role in shaping national foreign policy. AIPAC’s Hispanic Outreach encourages Latino leaders to become educated on the importance of the U.S. – Israel relationship and to engage in pro-Israel activism. Hispanic Outreach focuses on congressional districts with Hispanic members of Congress and/or large concentrations of Latino constituents.
Important state and local elected officials, leaders from prominent national organizations, political consultants, successful businesspeople and entrepreneurs, and numerous other community leaders have traveled to Israel with AIPAC’s charitable affiliate, the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), and have become important voices in the growing Hispanic pro-Israel community. An increasing number have engaged their members of Congress on the vitality of the U.S.-Israel alliance and are building critical relationships with future policymakers and opinion-leaders.
AIPAC currently focuses its Hispanic Outreach in the Southern Pacific Region with plans to expand to the Southwest Region in the near future.
“As a Latino, I feel very much at home when I'm at any AIPAC meeting, from a local level, to the National Summit, to this Policy Conference. People reach out, people are very friendly, people are inquisitive about why I'm here and what my role is. And it's a wonderful experience.” –Eddie Aldrete
“Israel and the Middle East is an American issue—not just a Jewish American issue. It's a Latino American issue, African American issue, Asian American issue. It’s an American issue and we in my community and other communities must understand the importance of it.” –Peter Villegas
