While endorsing the emergency government formed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after the terrorist group Hamas took over Gaza, President Bush made clear that the Palestinians must take concrete action against terrorism to move forward in peace negotiations with Israel. In a speech at the White House, Bush said Abbas' government must "arrest terrorists, dismantle their infrastructure and confiscate illegal weapons" while working to stop terrorist groups' attacks on Israelis. "This is a moment of clarity for all Palestinians," Bush said, "and now comes a moment of choice."
U.S. security assistance to Israel plays a critical role in helping the Jewish state defend itself against a myriad of threats.
