The resolution congratulates Ariel Sharon on his election as prime minister of Israel and commends the Jewish state for its dedication to democratic ideals. It reaffirms the close bonds of friendship between the United States and Israel and calls upon the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) to end violence against Israel.
