The letter recognizes the historic opportunity presented by Israeli disengagement from 25 settlements, and advises President George W. Bush to press Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for reciprocal peace efforts and democratic reforms inside the Palestinian Authority. The letter also urges Bush to hold Abbas accountable for dismantling terrorist groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
