Requiring Accountability on Iran Sanctions
Members of the House have introduced legislation that requires companies to declare publicly sanctionable investments in Iran in their quarterly and annual reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Iran Transparency and Accountability Act (ITA) of 2010 (H.R. 5833) would require the president to investigate any self-disclosures by companies that could lead to sanctions, and would mandate the disclosure of any business with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliates or any Iranian bank. The legislation complements the recently passed Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA), which aims to penalize companies doing business in Iran. ITA was sponsored by Reps. Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL). AIPAC strongly supports this legislation.
Israel's Right to Self-Defense
More than three-quarters of the House and the Senate have signed bipartisan letters to President Obama that affirm America's support for Israel and call on the president to back its right to self-defense at the United Nations and other international organizations. The letters, which received 338 signatories in the House and 87 signatories in the Senate, also state that the United States should stand with Israel because it is in America's "national security interest," and express support for Israel's right to self-defense in the wake of the Gaza flotilla incident. The House letter was led by Reps. Ted Poe (R-TX) and Gary Peters (D-MI). The Senate letter was spearheaded by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). AIPAC strongly supports both letters and thanks House and Senate lawmakers who signed them.
Security Assistance for Israel

U.S. security assistance to Israel enables the Jewish state to obtain critical military equipment.
President Obama has requested $3 billion in security assistance for Israel for fiscal year 2011. This aid reflects the third year of a 10-year U.S.-Israel security agreement signed in 2007 to gradually increase U.S. security assistance to the Jewish state in order to meet increasing threats, including a potential nuclear-armed Iran. AIPAC urges House and Senate members to support security assistance for Israel and the overall foreign aid bill.
Investigating the Flotilla

Members of the House have introduced a resolution (H. Res. 1532) that urges the secretary of state to conduct an investigation into the Turkish Islamic nongovernmental organization known as the IHH. The group was a lead organizer of the flotilla that sought to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, which is controlled by the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas. The resolution, sponsored by Reps. Dina Titus (D-NV) and Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL), calls for an inquiry of "the role of the IHH in providing financial, logistical, and material support to any entity listed as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the United States Department of State." It also urges an investigation of "the role of any foreign governments, including the Republic of Turkey, which may have aided and abetted the organizers of the recent Gaza Flotilla mission to breach Israeli coastal security and assault the naval defense forces of the State of Israel." AIPAC strongly supports this resolution.
